All About Disks!
I'm happy to announce that the next Tallahassee Vintage Computer Club meeting will be on October 19th, 2024 from 1pm to 4pm again at the Making Awesome community maker space.
Everyone is welcome. Feel free to come and go as you wish. Our number one goal is to have fun, share stories and talk tech. I encourage everyone to bring their favorite piece of vintage tech to share, whether it was a VIC-20, a Gamecube or a Tiger Electronics handheld. Chances are it was someone else's favorite too.
I'll be hosting an informal guided discussion on vintage floppy disks and hard drives, why we used them, how they work, and how to preserve the relatively fragile data on them. Please feel free bring all your questions and comments.
I will have my "Greaseweazle" floppy disk imager set up for reading and writing 3.5" or 5.25" floppy disks. If you have any old disks you'd like to have copied, or have a disk image you downloaded off the internet that you'd like written onto a floppy disk for use with your vintage computer, stop on by! This great device can read or write just about ANY disk image...from IBM to commodore to TRS-80.
In addition, I will bring hardware for reading most vintage hard drives, including MFM, IDE and SATA. If you have a vintage hard drive and no system to read it on, bring it on in (as well as an empty USB drive just in case) and we'll try spinning it up.
This meeting will have a side table reserved for consignment items. If you have a piece of tech you'd like to offer for sale or trade to the rest of the group, you're welcome to bring it. Please make sure to label it with your name and asking price.
See you there!
